Regional Program: Positive Behaviour Change & Preserving Antarctica
Speaker: Sophie Tang
Ms. Sophie Tang's presentation on "Preserving the Antarctic" was a huge success for the students of Shanghai American School. Using pictures, videos and personal anecdotes, Ms. Tang offered a seamless presentation which taught, motivated, and inspired our kids (and teachers too). I would highly recommend her to any school.

"The presentation was incredible. Our students were commenting how quickly the time flew by and wished Sophie could have stayed longer."
Dr. Debra Lane, Elementary Principal, Shanghai American School Puxi, Shanghai China
"Sophie did such a great presentation for our school. The pictures and videos were so fun that our kids and parents really enjoyed the presentation. Sophie also used fun ways to make our students aware of how important it is for us to do something for the animals, our environment and also for ourselves."
Konnie Tang, Mandarin teacher, Pudong Lower School, Shanghai Community International School
"Sophie’s talk was visually engaging. Elementary school students loved the photos and there was a nice mixture of animal shots and scenery. The significance of the year 2041 needs to be more emphasized. I think that needs to be the focus – time is running out and what happens if we do not continue this treaty, aside from the threats by climate change."
Robert van der Eyken, Head of School, Hangzhou International School, China
"Ms. Tang did three presentations at ISB covering grades 5-11. She smoothly adapted each presentation for the audience. Her slides were educational and engaging. Her passion for the planet was well received by students and teachers."

“Sophie delivers a presentation with beautiful images and colourful style – sharing a personal and passionate glimpse of the magnificence and vulnerability of the Antarctic. For those of us that have not been privileged to visit the Antarctic in person (and that is most of us), this is a rare and enjoyable opportunity, with a poignant message that we can all play our part to protect our environment. Not to be missed.”
Dr. Andrew Thomson, Chief Executive Officer, Business Environmental Council, Hong Kong
"Sophie was very down to earth and and excellent speaker. I was so impressed that she kept groups of each 30 and 40 young students very engaged with her incredible photos of her visit to Antarctica. The children loved the scenes and listening to her stories. The best part of the presentation was her pleasant demeanour and her patience. I was equally happy with her scientific knowledge of the environment as she was able to answer difficult questions and at the same time using age appropriate language for children aged 4 to 12 years old. She never seemed to tire of the endless sea of questions about her travels. She was a pleasure to have at our school. The teachers also felt that she was very good and her presentation was worthwhile for the students."
Leslie Stitt, Learning Extension teacher at Harbour School, Hong Kong
"Sophie is an inspirational speaker and was very knowledgeable about the ecological and environmental issues that students were learning. She spoke in an engaging way and I believe the students gained a great deal from her presentation."
Lucy Foster, Teacher of Environmental Systems & Societies, South Island School, Hong Kong
"I can't believe how many things I didn't know about Antarctica until I saw Sophie's presentation. I have been telling colleagues, friends and family about the wonderful, inspirational and riveting story Sophie weaves in her presentation. Whether you are 10 or 90 years old, you couldn't help but be captivated by Sophie's adventure, Robert Swan's dedication and the future of the least visited continent on the planet (something I learnt during her talk thrown in for good measure!)"
Anna Beech, Civic Exchange
"I consider Sophie as a very passionate person who loves nature. Her passion inspires teenagers to follow in her footsteps."
Regina Luk, Ethics Coordinator, St Paul's Convent School Hong Kong
"Sophie spoke to our students in an entertaining and informative manner, involving them in the presentation by asking questions to supplement the stunning pictures she provides. I wish we had had more time to do more."
Nasci Lobo, Environmental Affairs Co-ordinator, Canadian International School of Hong Kong
| "Sophie was able to present material to our younger and older groups in a format where they stayed engaged. She also helped them learn new things and had a great respect for their previously known knowledge which she showed by answering questions and respecting comments. What a great presentation!"
